Ithaca, N.Y.-- The women's lacrosse team defeated Empire 8 rivals Elmira 10-7 on Saturday.  The Bombers currently hold a 5-0 record, their first time since 2002.  Junior Kim Medla (Brewster/Brewster) lead the team offensively with seven points (3 goals and 1 assist), while classmate Meagan Howelll (Newark/Newark) had two goals in the game.

Ithaca took a strong lead in the first half with seven goals, the first from freshman Sarah Cox (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) off of a free position shot within five minutes of the game. Play was stopped for 51 minutes due to lightning at approximately 21:11 before play resumed.

Cox set-up the Bombers again in the second half  taking an assist from sophomore Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) to put the team up 8-2.  The Soaring Eagles fought to make a comeback with ten minutes left in play netting four goals in a row.  Bedard and Cox gave the Bombers two goals each while Bedard also had an assist.  The win is Ithaca’s sixth defeat over Elmira out of seven games.
